LISTSERV: Issue Commands
General Information
LISTSERV List Postings: These are e-mail messages that get distributed to members of a LISTSERV list.
LISTSERV List Commands: These are e-mail messages that are sent to the LISTSERV ID. These e-mail messages ARE NOT distributed to the members of the LISTSERV list and are used to maintain the list.
Issuing Commands
1. Send the E-mail To:
LISTSERV@LISTSERV.LSU.EDU
2. Formatting the Body of the E-mail:
Type the LISTSERV COMMAND.
- The e-mail should NOT contain any signatures. Any additional text in the body of the e-mail will be interpreted as an invalid LISTSERV command.
- The Subject line can be left blank.
- A single LISTSERV e-mail CAN contain multiple LISTSERV commands. To do more than one command, enter each new Command on a new line in the body of the e-mail.
- Content in the body of the e-mail must be formatted in plain text, without HTML formatting or hyperlinks. To remove a hyperlink: Right-click on the hyperlink & select Remove Hyperlink.
- The Upper-Case Letters in the command indicate the accepted abbreviation.

|
Sign-up for a list. If membership is under the control of the listowner, the request will be automatically forwarded to the owner who in turn will do the actual subscribing.

UNSUBscribe listname

Remove yourself from a list.

SIGNOFF listname
|
Sign off from a list.
|
|
SIGNOFF *
|
Signoff NETWIDE from all lists on all servers.

Query listname
|
Query your subscription options.

HELP
|
Receive some HELP info.
|

INFO
|
Receive commands info.
|

LIST
|
Find out what lists exist on LSU. Only lists that are not confidential will be shown in the response.
|

REView listname
|
Find out who is on a list. Users who subscribed with the 'conceal' option will not be listed in the response.

Notes:
Replace list_password with the password for the list.
Between the '//USERS DD *' and the '/*' lines, list the e-mail addresses and names to be added.
Use a separate line for each person.
Example:

Add a large number of members to a list at once.
|
|
Using QUIET in front of ADD prevents a "you have been added" notification from being sent to the user and to the listowner.
Example:
quiet add mylist-l mtiger@lsu.edu Mike Tiger

QUIET DELete listname userid@node
|
Remove someone from a list.
|
|
DELete list-name userid@node
|
|
Using QUIET in front of DELETE to prevent a "you have been deleted" notification from being sent to the user and to the listowner.
Example:
quiet del mylist-l mtiger@lsu.edu

QUIET DEL listname *@*
BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS COMMAND! IT DELETES EVERYONE FROM THE LISTSERV.
Example:
quiet del mylist-l *@*
