Moodle: Community: Self enrollment

For non-academic, Community Moodle courses, self enrollment might be an option if the overhead of manually managing enrollment becomes too burdensome.  Self enrollment is the method where users can choose to enroll themselves into a course, either by clicking "enroll me in this course" or by typing in an enrollment key they have been provided.

To enable Self enrollment:

  1. Click the Administration (gear) icon.
  2. Expand the “Users” menu and select “Enrollment methods.”
  3. Click the “Enable” (closed eye) icon on the “Self enrollment” method row to enable Self Enrollment.

Once enabled, click the “Edit” (gear) icon on the Self enrollment row to access configuration settings.  The following settings are useful in managing enrollment with Self enrollment enabled:

  • Enrollment key - this can be distributed to potential users to narrow the pool of users who can self enroll.
  • Enrollment duration - if configured, participants will be automatically un-enrolled once the duration expires.
  • Unenroll inactive after - will automatically unenroll participants after the specified period of inactivity.
