Moodle 2: Gradebook: Full View
[Return to Moodle 2: Gradebook: Customize the Layout]
The Full View allows you to create, view, and edit categories as well as individual items. The Full View is organized in an outline style.
To Get to the GradeBook Full View:
1. Click on Grades in the Administration Block in your course.
2. Click on the pull-down menu in the center of the GradeBook page and select Full View.
3. Refer to the image and descriptions below.
Each column controls a different aspect of the course's graded items and categories. In the descriptions below, each of the features will be accompanied by its specific example in the image above.
This column lists each category and graded item under the named course (LSU Moodle GROK Demo Course). A category is a group of graded items. Each category is indented with the items that are in that category (Quizzes)
This column allows the user to edit the aggregation method for each category, including the overall course category. The aggregation method determines how the grades in each category will be calculated in the category total. The aggregation method chosen will also affect which fields appear in other columns of the Full View table. For more on aggregation methods, click here.
A data field will only appear in the Weight column if Custom Weights is selected in the Aggregation column. (For example, since the aggregation method of the Quizzes category is weight by points, the weight of each item is determined by its max grade value instead of a custom weight. The overall course category has Custom Weights selected as its aggregation method. The two sub-categories each have a field to input the desired weight. Since the weights are relative proportions, Quizzes will count as 4/5 of the final grade while Homework 1 will count for 1/5.)
By checking this box, the grades that are associated with the item will be counted as bonus items. The manner that bonus items are calculated varies depending on the aggregation method selected for the parent category. For instance, in the Sum of Grades and Weight by Points aggregation methods, an extra credit item will be added to the total points for the category, and then that sum will be divided by the category's maximum score. In the Custom Weights method, the percent score for the category is calculated first, and then any bonus points are added to the percent score.
The maximum grade possible for a category or manual grade item. If a category is set to Sum of Grades aggregation method, then its Max Grade is determined by the total of the items within the category, and cannot be manually set on this page. If a grade item is an Activity (such as a Quiz or Upload File Assignment) then its Max Grade value must be set within the Edit/Update page for that item.
Exclude Empty Grades
This option tells Moodle to not include items and category totals that are blank in its calculations. If this option is "unchecked" the blanks will be counted the same as if containing a zero value.
Keep the highest
This option allows the user to select only the highest specified number of grade items to apply to that category total. (For example, if there are 12 graded quizzes in the "Quizzes" category, and you want to "drop" the two lowest grades, input a 10.)
Drop the lowest
This option allows the user to select only the lowest specified number of grade items to drop from that category total. (For example, if there are 12 graded quizzes in the "Quizzes" category, and you want to "drop" the two lowest grades, input a 2.)
This option multiplies each students' grade by a constant ratio to arrive at an adjusted score. To determine the value to enter in the Curve To text field, multiply the Max Grade by the desired constant ratio. For example, if you want to multiply all grades by 1.10 (or increase them all by 10%,) and the Max grade for the item is 100 points, then the value in the Curve To field should be 110.
This is a way to add a uniform number of points to an assignment or category for all students. For example, if the offset has a value of 5, and a student has a grade of 80, then the displayed grade will become 85.
NOTE: When editing is "On" all grades display in their raw form, without Offset or Curve To applied.
These icons perform a variety of functions:
- Edit/Update - clicking this icon will open the edit/update window for that item or category.
- Delete - clicking this icon will delete the item or category. NOTE - Activities such as Quizzes or Upload File assignments cannot be deleted in this view. Instead delete them from the front page of your Moodle course.
- Move - clicking this icon will allow you to select a new location to move the item.
- Hide/Show - clicking this icon will toggle between hidden and shown status for the item.
- Lock - clicking this icon will toggle between locked and unlocked status for the item.
This field allows the user to select certain items to move. Note that the All and None options for a category will only select/deselect items within that category. After selecting items, use the Move Selected Items to . . . menu at the bottom of the page to move the items.
